Dan Hanson


Dan Hanson, CFA, is Head of Impact Investing for JANA Partners. Previously, he was Partner with Jarislowsky Fraser Global Investment Management, a privately held $30B AUM firm, where he served as Head of U.S. Equities and Co-Chair of the Investment Strategy Committee. Mr. Hanson has more than 20 years of experience in US and global equities, credit and mortgage securities, and more than a decade of experience managing ESG strategies.

Previously, Mr. Hanson spent 10 years at BlackRock as Managing Director, Portfolio Manager, and head of fundamental research for $30B AUM. Mr. Hanson managed the top decile Socially Responsible Equity portfolio, one of the first large sustainable investment funds at BlackRock. Mr. Hanson served as a voting member of the North American Proxy Committee, responsible for stewardship on $900B AUM.

Mr. Hanson is a lecturer at UC Berkeley Haas, serves as a judge for the Moskowitz Prize which recognizes outstanding quantitative research in sustainable investing, and was awarded the Investor Responsibility Research Center Institute (IRRCi) practitioner research prize. He contributed to the Impact Capital Managers (ICM) inaugural “Alpha in Impact” report and was a founding member of the board of directors of the Sustainable Accounting Standards Board (SASB).

He earned a BA in economics and French from Middlebury College and an MBA in analytical finance and accounting from the University of Chicago.
