Peter Brown

After completing a BA in mathematics from Harvard and a PhD in computer science from Carnegie Mellon, Mr. Brown spent nine years with IBM Research applying machine learning techniques to automatic speech recognition and natural language translation. Mr. Brown joined Renaissance Technologies in 1993. In 2003, Mr. Brown and his colleague Bob Mercer was promoted to Executive Vice Presidents in charge of all trading, research, and technical activities. In 2010, Mr. Brown and Mr. Mercer became the firm’s Co-CEOs, and today Peter serves as the firm’s sole CEO. When not in Renaissance’s Long Island office, Mr. Brown lives with his wife, Margaret Hamburg, in Washington DC.
